Micro-Needling What is it?

Micro-needling is a skin rejuvenation treatment. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that uses fine needles and creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin to induce collagen and elastin to your skin. As a result you have improved texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size, wrinkles, and stretch marks. Micro-needling is a simple and fast wrinkle and scar treatment. Epidermis remains intact, so the procedure can be repeated safely and it can be applied to areas where laser treatment can’t be performed. The great news is that micro-needling is suitable for all skin types, so patients with ultra-sensitive skin, who can’t have laser and heat treatments, can benefit from this procedure.
Micro-Needling What does it do?
- Improve and reduce wrinkles, minimize pore size and induce skin tightening.
- Stimulate collagen production which promotes rejuvenation of skin
- Improve the appearance of surgical, traumatic, burn, and acne scars
- Hyperpigmentation (brown spots and melasma)
- It may also improve appearance of stretch marks
Micro-Needling How does it work?
Controlled “micro injuries” are created in the skin which triggers new collage synthesis. Basically, your skin is stimulated to produce its own collagen and elastin cells. Micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels which can be used for administration of a variety of products like topical gels, serums, creams, stem cells, vitamin C (antioxidant boost), other. The products are thus absorbed more effectively into the skin. Specific treatment products can be selected to receive greater and faster results. During the procedure what you may feel is the sensation as if light sandpaper is moved across the skin. Some patients describe the sensation as similar to the feel of a cat’s tongue. Some areas are more sensitive than others, so the hydrating gel is applied to make the treatment more comfortable.
We use only sterile single-use surgical grade disposable needle tips. There is absolutely no potential for cross contamination between patients. Adjustable needle penetration depths allow our specialists choose a custom treatment for your specific skin problems and preferences for treatment approach (light, moderate, or aggressive).
The Eclipse MicroPen™ used in the procedure breaks up pigment mechanically instead of with light (heat) and remodels the collagen without heat. Since there is no heat, the treatment is rather safe and comfortable with a very low complication rate.
Am I a good candidate?
Anyone who wants to see improvement in acne, scarring, and pitting on the skin is a good candidate. Patients who want to reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve the overall appearance of their skin will benefit from the procedure.
What is the Micro-Needling down time?
Immediately after the treatment you will notice redness to the skin. It may look like a sunburn. The total healing time depends on the micro-needling setting used and the number of overlapping passes. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Many patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours. You will treat your skin gently and refrain from acid- containing products for about a week.
What are the Micro-Needling results and when will I see them?
Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results continue to improve up to 6 months after the treatment as collagen production continues. Depending on the skin condition, some patients require a single treatment; however, patients with deep wrinkles or acne scars may be recommended to receive a series of 6-8 treatments.
